Waste companies on the streets outside of these days will be fined

Dublin city’s bin collection chaos is to be brought under control following the introduction of new restrictions on private waste collectors.

Councillors have approved a new system of “designated days”, when bins can be coll- ected in defined areas of the city. Waste companies caught on the streets outside of these days will be liable for fines and prosecutions and could lose their licence to operate.

The city has been split into six districts, with collections to the south of the city on Monday, to the west on Tuesday and to the north on Wednesday. Separate north city areas will be covered on Thursday and Friday, while householders in the city centre, on both sides of the river, will be able to avail of seven-day collections.

The measures are being taken to tackle the disruption caused by competing companies involved in waste collection since the council withdrew from the service last year.
